WACO, Texas -
The fourth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team was selected to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships, the NCAA selection committee announced on Tuesday.
Baylor (24-4) is hosting the NCAA first and second rounds for the fourth-straight season and the fifth time overall. The Lady Bears receive their 12th bid to the NCAA Championships in program history. The first and second round matches are set for May 9-10 with start times to be determined.
"We were expecting to be a Top 4 seed in the tournament, so it is good to see the NCAA reward that," said head coach Joey Scrivano. "We are excited to be hosting the first two rounds of the tournament. We know that will be a huge advantage for us to play in front of our home crowd."
Baylor is coming off a 4-1 win over Texas to claim its fourth-straight Big 12 Tournament title last weekend. The Lady Bears finished conference play with a perfect 11-0 record to claim their fifth-straight regular season league crown.
In first round action, Baylor will face UT-Arlington from the Southland Conference. SMU and Texas A&M will face each other in the second matchup.
UT-Arlington enters the NCAA tournament with an 14-6 overall record after sweeping through the Southland Conference regular season undefeated and cruising past UTSA, 4-0, in the SLC Championship final. No. 23 SMU holds a 27-2 record this season and is riding a 17-match winning streak after claiming its first-ever Conference USA title. No. 39 Texas A&M enters the tournament with a 14-10 record, coming off a 4-2 loss to Texas in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament.
