– Seniors Jelena Stanivuk and Taylor Ormond were each honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for regional awards recently announced by ITA officials.

Stanivuk was named the Texas Region Senior of the Year, while Ormond earned the Texas Region’s Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship award.

Stanivuk, who is enjoying a near-perfect season on the singles courts, becomes the third Baylor player in the last four years to earn the honor and fourth overall. The senior has amassed a singles mark of 23-2, and enters the NCAA Championships this weekend on an 11-match win streak. Stanivuk also put together an 11-0 mark against conference opponents.

Ormond becomes the sixth Baylor player to win the Arthur Ashe award, and the first since Zuzana Zemenova won it in 2007. Ormond, who missed the entire fall tournament season and half of the spring dual-match season, has revived her game as of late. She has compiled a 9-6 mark in singles, but is currently riding a five-match win streak.

The Lady Bears will be back on the court this weekend on May 14-15, as they host the first two rounds of the NCAA Team Championships at the Baylor Tennis Center. They will take on UT-Arlington at noon on Saturday, May 14. Oklahoma will take on Cal Poly earlier in the day, while the winners of each match will meet on Sunday, May 15, at 2 p.m. for a chance to advance to the round of 16.
