WACO, Texas - Baylor women's tennis has signed North Carolina State transfer Rachael James-Baker to a Financial Aid Contract, head coach Joey Scrivano announced Thursday.

"Rachael is a terrific player," Scrivano said. "She is really going to raise our energy level. It is nice that she has two years of college tennis experience under her belt. We definitely have a need for a player with experience. We are excited for Rachael to be part of what we are building here at Baylor and we think the future is really bright for her."

In two seasons at North Carolina State, James-Baker was 31-31 overall and 26-19 in dual-match play. In 2014, she played exclusively at the No. 2 position in the lineup for the Wolfpack, tallying a 13-9 record.

Before heading to North Carolina State, James-Baker attended American Heritage High School in Plantation, Fla. She was ranked No. 40 overall among newcomers in 2012 by tennisrecruiting.net and No. 9 overall by the USTA Florida Section for 18-and-under in 2011-12. She led American Heritage High School to three-straight state championships from 2009-11.

James-Baker joins the Lady Bears with two years of eligibility remaining. She will be tasked with helping BU replace three seniors from its 2014 singles lineup. Baylor finished the year ranked No. 14, after compiling a 26-7 record and making the NCAA Round of 16 for the ninth time in the last 10 years. The Lady Bears won both the Big 12 regular season and tournament titles in 2014 to give the program 17 conference titles.
