SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Baylor women's tennis team was named an ITA All-Academic team and had four players honored as ITA Scholar Athletes, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced recently.
It is the sixth straight season that BU has earned the team honor and the eighth time in the last nine years. To be recognized, the Lady Bears had to have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above.
Meanwhile, student-athletes Abby Stainback, Blair Shankle, Karen Avila and Makenzie Craft held an grade point average of 3.50 for the current academic year to secure the Scholar Athlete title. Baylor's four players recognized is the program's most since also having four in 2011.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must also be a varsity letter winner, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters.
As announced Tuesday, the women's team placed four representatives on the Baylor Dean's List and 11 on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
