Baylor women's tennis incoming freshman Kelley Anderson
claimed the singles title at the ITA summer circuit event hosted by UT Arlington on Monday in Arlington, Texas.
Playing in a 64-person singles draw, the third-seeded Anderson won six consecutive matches to take the crown. In the semifinals, the Roanoke, Texas, product downed the event's No. 2 seed Madison Westby 6-2, 6-1 and then blanked Rachael Sadiq, 6-0, 6-0, in the finals.
Meanwhile in the doubles draw, Anderson partnered with Westby to finish as the second-place team.
Anderson, who is from Southlake Carroll High School in the Dallas area, was a five-star recruit and the No. 3 prospect in the state of Texas according to tennisrecruiting.net. She signed with Baylor in November and will be competing for the Lady Bears in the 2014-15 season.
The summer circuit is designed to provide incoming freshmen and collegiate players the chance to compete in the summer months, for NCAA compliance purposes, the events within the ITA Summer Circuit are categorized as "open"; therefore anyone is eligible to compete in these events as long as he/she is a current ITA member.
The ITA Summer Circuit is currently made up of nine regional circuits (Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest, Central, Mountain, Texas, Northern California and Southern California) consisting of four consecutive open tournaments played during the month of July, leading up to the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships in Bloomington, Indiana in August.
