WACO, Texas - Baylor women's tennis head coach Joey Scrivano announced the addition of Maryland transfer Jordaan Sanford to his list of newcomers for the 2011-12 academic year.
Sanford, who recently completed her freshman season for the Terrapins, will join four incoming freshmen including Megan Horter (Southlake, Texas), Nicole Kosakowski (Downey, Calif.) Rachael Reed (The Woodlands, Texas) and Ema Burgic (Lukavac, Bosnia & Herzegovina).
"Jordaan will be a great fit for our program," Scrivano said. "She had a great freshman season and comes to us with a big upside. Jordaan is a great student and loves the game of tennis. We are excited to have her become a part of our program."
Coming off a freshmen campaign at Maryland, Sanford put together a strong record in both singles and doubles. Playing at least six matches in each of the top three positions in the singles lineup, she put together a 20-12 overall record. Sanford ranked second on the team with 20 wins and five wins over ranked opponents.
In doubles, Sanford and partner Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar earned a trip to the NCAA Doubles Championship and knocked off Clemson's No. 1-ranked duo of Josipa Bek and Keri Wong. She ended the season with a doubles mark of 25-8, including an 18-4 mark in dual-match play.
A native of Diamond Bar, Calif., Sanford excelled in the classroom during her freshman year as well, earning Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic team honors.
