SKILLMAN, N.J. - Baylor women's tennis junior Ema Burgic, ranked No. 6 in the country, leads a trio of Lady Bears listed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's preseason rankings released on Friday.
Burgic, a 2013 ITA All-American, is joined in the rankings by senior Jordaan Sanford at No. 97 and sophomore Victoria Kisialeva, who is ranked No. 114. Burgic and Kisialeva are ranked as the fifth-best doubles tandem in the country.
Last season, Burgic was ranked No. 11 in the final ITA listings. She racked up a 25-5 dual-match record and ended the season on a 17-match win streak.
Overall, Burgic finished 42-8 on the season and 24-6 against ranked opponents. That win total is the fourth-most in BU history for a single season. The Lukavac, Bosnia & Herzegovina, product was named the Big 12 Player of the Year and the ITA National Player to Watch.
Sanford was 17-11 overall and 13-8 in dual-match play a year ago, while Kisialeva produced a 14-19 mark and an 8-7 record in dual-match play.
In doubles, Burgic and Kisialeva closed 2012-13 with a 25-3 mark overall, a 19-3 dual-match record and wins in their last six matches. The tandem earned All-American honors, after being ranked No. 14.
Along with the rankings, the ITA also released the entries for the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
The event at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., is set to begin on Sept. 28 with pre-qualifying singles and doubles matches. Main draw action is slated for Oct. 3-6.
Burgic will be in the main draw of singles and the doubles with Kisialeva. Meanwhile Kisialeva and Sanford will be in the pre-qualifying singles draw.
Baylor will open its fall season at the Midland Invitational, Sept. 13-15.
