The Baylor women's tennis team had six singles players and two doubles teams selected to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason singles and doubles rankings, the association announced on Monday. The rankings include the top 125 singles players and the top 50 doubles teams.
Baylor led the nation with six singles players included in the preseason rankings, headlined by All-American Lenka Broosova. The junior from Banska Bystrica, Slovakia completed one of the finest seasons in program history in 2008, finishing with a school record 52-5 overall singles record, including a 33-1 mark in dual matches. She advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals before falling to eventual national champion Amanda McDowell of Georgia Tech.
Also included in the preseason rankings are junior transfer Csilla Borsanyi at No. 27 and sophomore Taylor Ormond at No. 34. Borsanyi was a singles All-American at Florida during the 2007 season. Ormond most recently won the Canadian University Championship.
Jana Bielikova (No. 85), Jelena Stanivuk (No. 97) and Karolina Filipiak (No. 120) were also selected to the preseason rankings.
In addition, Broosova and Borsanyi were selected as the No. 18 doubles team in the country. Last season, Broosova earned All-America honors in doubles, teaming up with Zuzana Zemenova. Ormond and Bielikova were ranked as the No. 49 doubles team in the country.
The Lady Bears open their fall season on Sept. 27-Oct. 5 at the Riviera All-American in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
