Tennis Tournament Affected by Hurricane Rita

Sept. 22, 2005

WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's tennis team will be traveling to Denton, Texas, Friday for the Mean Green Tennis Invitational hosted by North Texas University. The tournament was originally scheduled to take place over the entire weekend, but due to weather and safety threats posed by Hurricane Rita, Friday will be the only day of matches.

"With Hurricane Rita approaching the North Texas area, we have made the decision to postpone all home athletic events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday," said UNT's athletic director Rick Villarreal. "The safety of our student-athletes and staff is of the utmost importance and postponing these contests is the first measure to help ensure that safety. We will make every effort to re-schedule everything that is affected by this storm."

Matches are scheduled to start Friday morning at 8 o'clock. There are four singles flights and two doubles flights, and each flight is a draw of 16 with players participating from nine schools, including Army, Baylor, North Texas, SMU, TCU, Texas Tech, Texas State, Tyler Junior College, and UT-Arlington.
