WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's tennis team is set to host the HEB Baylor Invitational on Friday, Oct. 30, at the Baylor Tennis Center. Doubles action is set to begin at 8 a.m., with singles starting at 9 a.m.
The tournament features the Lady Bears, along with players from North Texas, Rice, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Texas-Arlington, Wichita State and Armstrong Atlantic State.
"This is a great way for us to wrap up the fall season," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "Playing at home against strong competition is always a positive experience for our student-athletes. Hosting another great event like the HEB BU Invite gives us another opportunity to showcase our world class facilities and tennis program."
Baylor junior Taylor Ormond received the top seed in the singles bracket, while teammate Csilla Borsanyi is set as the second seed. The two will also pair up as the top seed in doubles draw over the weekend. Ormond will face Shannon McKenzie of North Texas in the second round, while Borsanyi will play Texas A&M's Christina Amo.
Ormond enters the weekend with a 3-2 record in two fall tournament, while Borsanyi has a 4-2 record during her two fall tournaments. The pair will be playing their first doubles match together of the season.
In singles action, Karolina Filipiak is unseeded, but received a first-round bye. Filipiak will face the winner of the match between Madura Ranganathan of North Texas and Texas A&M's Stephanie Davidson. Unseeded Carla Lindlar will take on UTA's Daiana Negreanu in first-round action.
Filipiak comes into the tournament with a 5-2 record in singles play, while Lindlar is 5-3 in two fall tournaments. The duo teamed up once this season in a loss in the Wilson/ITA Central Regional.
