USTA/ITA Indoor Draws | HEB Invitational Draws

WACO, Texas
– The Baylor women’s tennis team will start one of their busiest weekends of the year with two players at the USTA/ITA Indoor Championships in Flushing, N.Y., while also hosting the HEB Baylor Invitational on Nov. 5-7.

Junior Nina Secerbegovic earned her berth into the Indoor Championships with her quarterfinal appearance at the ITA/Riviera All-American earlier this season. She will take on seventh-seeded Maria Sanchez of USC in her first round match.

Junior Sona Novakova also earned a spot in the elite event, winning the USTA/ITA Texas Regional title less than two weeks ago. Novakova sliced through the regional field, beating SMU’s Marta Lesniak 6-2, 6-1 in the final for the automatic berth. She will face Duke’s eighth-seeded Reka Zsilinszka in the Round of 32.

Novakova and Secerbegovic will also compete in the doubles field at the event after winning the Texas Regional title over SMU’s Lesniak and Heather Steinbauer 9-8 (5). The Baylor pair faces USC’s Valeria Pulido and Alison Ramos.

Meanwhile, the Lady Bears will enter three players into the field at the HEB Baylor Invitational at the Baylor Tennis Center. Aya Bara, Karolina Filipiak and Abby Stainback will each compete in the singles event, while Bara and Filipiak will team up for the doubles event.
