WACO, Texas – After not being included in the preseason release, three Baylor women’s tennis players were represented in the Oracle/ITA Division I Women’s National Singles Rankings release announced by the ITA on Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to gaining valuable experience at professional tournaments, which included the Waco Showdown Wildcard singles championship, Van Zyl has compiled an 8-3 singles record competing for Baylor in sanctioned tournaments. She secured an Oracle wildcard selection to take part in the ITA National Fall Championships, where she registered a 2-1 mark against top collegiate players in the country. The Aroab, Namibia, native also won the H-E-B Invitational singles title this fall.
Kraus is off to a strong start as a Lady Bear, compiling a 7-2 singles record in tournament play. After falling in the opening round of the ITA Texas Regional Championships singles main draw, she rebounded in a big way. Kraus battled her way through consolation rounds to come out on top of the bracket, securing her first collegiate singles title.
In and out of the rankings as a freshman for Baylor last season, Hinojosa posted a 6-2 mark in fall tournament action. She played her way to the quarterfinals at the ITA Texas Regional and the semifinals of the H-E-B Invitation, in which she fell to eventual champion and teammate Van Zyl.
Baylor, which has earned 13 consecutive NCAA Tennis Championship selections and 20 overall, begins its spring season in January.
