WACO, Texas - The Baylor Bears hit .287 and took a 25-19, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23 victory over Northwestern State Friday afternoon at the Ferrell Center. Baylor improved to 3-6 on the season dropping the Demons to 1-7 on the season, using a balanced offensive effort against its first opponent in the Baylor Invitational.

Adrien Richburg had a career-high 15 kills in the match on a .357 hitting percentage and added six total blocks to aid the Bears. Thea Munch-Soegaard had her third consecutive double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs, Zoe Adom added 10 kills and Laura Jones hit .615 with nine kills for Baylor.

Defensively, Baylor head coach Jim Barnes said he was disappointed with the Bears effort as Baylor couldn't finish the sweep in set three. The Bears had to fight to tie the score at 20 after trailing 19-14, but the Demons scored five of the last six points of the set to force set four. Baylor also suffered 12 service errors one match after collecting 10 in a loss to Texas State.

The Bears are now 3-2 at the Ferrell Center this season after the home victory.

TOP QUOTE
Jim Barnes and his mixed emotions after the Bears defeated Northwestern State
"Offensively, we did some things better that we worked on in practice. We had a good rightside and middle attack. Unfortunately that was overshadowed by our inconsistency on defense and at the service line. We still have a long way to go."

WHAT'S NEXT
The Bears take on their second opponent at the Baylor Invitational, Appalachian State (6-2), Friday night at 7 p.m. The Mountaineers lost in five sets to Colorado Friday morning.
