AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (7-4, 1-0) extended its win streak over Baylor (8-9, 0-1) to eight matches and took the Big 12 opener for both teams Saturday at the Hilton Center, 25-14, 25-19, 25-17. The No. 25-ranked Cyclones hi .314 in the match with Mackenzie Bigbee leading ISU with 11 kills.
Defensively, the Cyclones held Baylor to a .198 hitting percentage helped by 57 team digs led by the Big 12’s leader, Kristen Hahn, who had 24 in the three-set victory. Service was a struggle for Baylor on both sides of the net as the Bears suffered seven service errors and Iowa State recorded eight service aces.
Laura Jones hit .348 and had 10 kills for Baylor, and Zoe Adom added nine for the Bears. The Bears played better in set two after dropping the firs by 11 points, however, after trailing just 18-16 in the second set, the Cyclones closed out by scoring seven of the last 10 points. Then, in set three, the score was tied at 10 apiece before the Cyclones went on an 9-1 run to extend the lead to 19-11.
Baylor has lost 14 of the last 15 meetings with the Cyclones, and the Bears have dropped their last five Big 12 openers.
