WACO, Texas -
The Baylor offense was much improved from the past weeks, but still couldn't match the consistency of Iowa State as the Cyclones swept the Bears, 3-0 (30-28, 30-15, 32-30) in Big 12 volleyball action Saturday night at the Ferrell Center.
Senior outside hitter Nicole LeBlanc (Tampa, Fla.) led Baylor (13-10, 2-9 Big 12) with 17 kills and also added eight digs. Freshman middle blocker Anna Breyfogle (Buda, Texas) had 10 kills and four blocks, while freshman outside hitter Katie Sanders (Katy, Texas) had nine kills. Junior libero Kristen Schramek (San Antonio, Texas) led the Bears with nine digs.
Katie Jessen led Iowa State (14-7, 6-5) with 18 kills and added 12 digs. Jessica Klein and Nicole Lorenzen had 12 kills each with Lorenzen adding 11 digs. Kaylee Manns had a match-high 14 digs, while Laura Cady had 10 digs.
Iowa State hit .353, while Baylor hit .241. The difference in the match proved to be in the defense, as the Cyclones outdug the Bears, 63-45. Baylor outblocked the Big 12's top blocking team, 9.0-6.0. The loss was the Bears' eighth in a row.
The Bears are idle Wednesday and will return to action in a rare Friday home match, Oct. 27 against Missouri at 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
