WACO, Texas - Setter Taylor Barnes broke BU's all-time assists record, leading Baylor to a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-15, 25-14) over visiting Colorado on Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center.

"We went out there, had leads, and extended them instead of letting them back in the sets," head coach Jim Barnes said. "That's a good sign that we kept playing hard to the end."

Barnes, who entered the night 19 assists shy of Dana Chuha's career record on 4,955, recorded 20 on the night to break the record by one. She also had nine digs, six blocks and four kills in the match to lead the Bears. Junior Ashlie Christenson fueled the Bear attack with 13 kills and just one error on 22 swings for a .545 clip.

"It's a huge honor to break that record, but I couldn't have done it without the girls," setter Taylor Barnes said. "I am so fortunate to have great players around me."

The defense was the other story on the night as Anna Breyfogle led a Bear block party, racking up 11 block assists, her second highest total of the season, and the second highest three-set total in school history. The Bears had 14.0 blocks as a team with Barnes' six, four from Christenson and three more from Briana Tolbert. In the back row, Allison King totaled 19 digs to lead all players, while Katie Sanders added nine.

For the match the Bears out-slugged the Buffaloes in dominating fashion, hold CU to under .100 in each set, while hitting at least .270 in all three. Colorado had 25 kills to go with 19 errors in 94 attempts (.064), while BU had 38 kills and just 10 errors in 89 attempts (.315).

In the first set, Colorado jumped out to a 6-3 lead after three BU errors. But, the Bears bounced back with a Barnes' kill and block assist with Breyfogle. The teams traded points to 11-11, but Baylor poured it on with an 11-1 run. During the span, Christenson tallied three kills and Breyfogle had three stuffs, twice with Barnes and once with Elizabeth Graham. Baylor then finished off the set with a 4-1 run, including another Breyfogle block and two consecutive CU errors to end it 25-14.

In the second set, the Bears were the aggressor from the start with a 6-1 opening run, including a service ace by Barnes and a Christenson kill. The Buffaloes tied it at 6-6, but Baylor extended a lead to 13-7 with a spectacular four-kill stretch from Christenson. Graham and Campbell each recorded two kills in the stretch run of the set and Barnes finished it off 25-15 with a kill.

The third started slow for BU, tying the score at 3-3 with a Sanders kill. The Bears got it rolling after that with three kills by Tolbert and a Sanders ace to make it 18-9. Two consecutive triple blocks by Breyfogle, Christenson and Tolbert shut down the CU offense for good, and Barnes made the record-breaking set to Christenson to put BU up 20-10. A kill by Breyfogle set up match point for Sanders, and she put it away with the game's final kill, 25-14.

The Bears (21-6, 10-6 Big 12) hit the road for the next two matches, starting with the University of Kansas at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The match will be broadcast live via streaming audio on BaylorBears.com.
