Baylor got off to a solid start but couldn't hold 25th-ranked Missouri's offense in check long enough as the Bears fell in their home finale, 3-0 (30-26, 30-23, 30-19), in Big 12 Conference volleyball action Saturday night at the Ferrell Center.
Sophomore middle blocker Desiree Guilliard-Young (Berkeley, Calif.) led Baylor (12-18, 4-15 Big 12) with 12 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Nicole LeBlanc (Tampa, Fla.) recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Freshman libero Kristen Schramek (San Antonio, Texas) added 10 digs and junior Adeline Meira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) posted six blocks.
Jessica Vander Kooi led Missouri (18-7, 13-5) with 17 kills and 11 digs, while Shen Danru added 14 kills and 10 digs. Lisa Boyd posted 12 kills, and Tatum Ailes had 11 digs. Lindsey Hunter also chipped in with 50 assists and 10 digs.
Baylor scored four straight points to jump out to an early 9-4 lead in game one, but Missouri kept chipping away and scored six straight points to take a 23-19 lead. After the Bears sided out, the Tigers responded with another four points to go up 27-20 and closed out game one, 30-26. Missouri hit .250 in the game, while Baylor hit .233.
Missouri scored four in a row early in game two to go up 10-5. Baylor got back to within three at 20-17, but the Tigers ripped off a 6-0 run to take a 26-17 lead and went on to a 30-23 victory. Missouri hit .415 in the game, while Baylor hit .256.
Baylor only trailed 10-8 when Missouri scored five straight in game three. The Tigers took their biggest lead of the game with four points in a row to make it 26-13 and went on to clinch the match, 30-19. Missouri hit .394, while holding the Bears to only .133.
The Tigers outhit the Bears, .341-.214, for the match and outdug the Bears, 46-38. Baylor outblocked Missouri, 8.5-5.0, but the Tigers had five more aces (9-4).
Baylor hits the road for its final match as it faces Oklahoma Saturday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. in Norman, Okla.
