Volleyball Opens Four-Week Spring Slate

WACO, Texas - Baylor's volleyball team will begin its building for next season with the start of its four-tournament spring season on Saturday at UT-Arlington in an all-day round robin.

The opening tournament this weekend was originally schedule to be played at Baylor's McLane Student Life Center, but due to a team cancellation, the Bears were forced to enter the round robin at UTA. They will face the host Mavericks, Dallas Baptist, Stephen F. Austin and Midwestern State starting at 9 a.m. at the College Park Center. Baylor will face MWSU at 9 a.m. followed by UTA at 10 a.m., and then return in the afternoon to face DBU at 12:30 p.m. and SFA at 1:30 p.m.

On March 31, Baylor will travel to Houston to play in the Reliant Center in one of the elite spring tournaments in the nation hosted by F.A.S.T. Complex. The Bears will face teams from a pool that includes Texas, Oklahoma, Rice, Texas A&M, Lamar, LSU, North Texas, Louisiana-Lafayette, SMU, Sam Houston State, TCU, Houston, UTSA and Wichita State. The tournament is set to run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

After a weekend off over Easter, Baylor will be back on the court at UT-Arlington for a second tournament at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

Following UTA will be the final weekend of the spring season with Baylor making a trip to Dallas for the Lonestar Collegiate tournament.

Baylor is coming off its fourth straight winning season in 2011 after producing an 18-14 mark. The Bears also earned their second postseason berth in the last three seasons and claimed two all-Big 12 selections with middle blocker Briana Tolbert named the first team all-league squad and Adri Nora named to the all-freshman squad.
