The Baylor volleyball team was voted to finish sixth in the 2013 Big 12 Volleyball Preseason poll, announced Wednesday. The Bears finished 7-9 in Big 12 competition in 2012 and placed sixth in the league standings.
Texas was picked to win the league for the third-straight season coming off a national championship season and its sixth Big 12 championship. The Longhorns received eight of the nine first-place votes while Iowa State was picked second and received the other first-place vote.
Kansas and Kansas State were voted third and fourth respectively while Oklahoma was selected ahead of Baylor at fifth. The Bears finished sixth in the poll followed by a tie for seventh between TCU and Texas Tech. West Virginia rounded out the nine-team poll.
Baylor returns 12 lettermen from last year's squad including Zoe Adom who was selected to the 2013 Big 12 Volleyball Preseason team Tuesday. Along with Adom, Thea Munch-Soegaard and Hope Ogden return to head coach Jim Barnes' team with significant starting experience from 2012.
The Bears are set to begin preseason practice Saturday, and the season-opener is scheduled for Aug. 30 at Colorado State. Baylor's first Big 12 match of the season is Sept. 28 in Ames, Iowa at Iowa State.
