Andie Malloy was named to the 2014 Big 12 All-Preseason Team
WACO, Texas - Despite not playing in 2013, or in a Baylor uniform, the Bears' Andie Malloy was unanimously voted as a 2014 Preseason All-Big 12 Volleyball Team selection, the league announced Thursday.
Malloy played for Iowa State as freshman in 2012 where she earned Big 12 All-Freshman honors. She collected142 kills (1.97 p/s), which ranked fifth on the Cyclones' squad, and she helped ISU to a 22-8 record, a 13-3 Big 12 mark and an NCAA Regional Tournament appearance.
After Malloy decided to transfer to Baylor following the 2012-13 school year, due to Big 12 transfer rules, she was allowed to practice, but not play in either the fall or non-traditional spring season for the 2013-14 school year for the Bears.
Still, her impact on ISU in 2012 was enough that the eight other Big 12 head volleyball coaches voted Malloy as Baylor's top player headed into the 2014 season.
Texas' Haley Eckerman, who is the reigning two-time Big 12 Player of the Year, was named the Preseason Player of the Year while Ainisa Havili of Kansas was named Preseason Freshman of the Year.
The Big 12 will release its preseason poll of the nine-team league tomorrow. Baylor finished the season at 12-20 last season with a 4-12 record against Big 12 opponents.
