Baylor volleyball hosts Mississippi State, Oregon and Stephen F. Austin in the Baylor Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Ferrell Center. Baylor will face Stephen F. Austin on Friday at 7 p.m., and will then square off against Mississippi State Saturday at 1 p.m. and Oregon to close the match at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Sophomore outside hitter Katie Sanders leads Baylor with 4.94 kills per game. She recorded a career high 17 digs on Tuesday evening against Texas State, and has registered four straight double-doubles to start the season. Sophomore middle blocker Anna Breyfogle is second on the team with 3.12 kills per game and leads the Bears with 1.38 blocks per game. Sophomore setter Taylor Barnes is a preseason All-Big 12 selection and has run the Baylor offense to a hitting efficiency of .239 through four matches. She also has recorded a team-high 10 service aces (0.62 sapg) including six against Texas State on Tuesday.
The Bears are 3-1 with wins over Buffalo and North Carolina, before falling to Stony Brook in the University at Buffalo Classic last weekend in Buffalo, N.Y. Barnes and Sanders were named to the all-tournament team. On Tuesday, Baylor won its home opener 3-1 over Texas State.
Baylor returns to action next weekend in the SMU/Radisson Invitational Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8, in Dallas, Texas. The Bears will play Sam Houston State on Friday before facing Mississippi and SMU on Saturday.
