BAYLOR VOLLEYBALL TRAVELS TO TEXAS STATE

The Baylor volleyball team hits the road for the first time in the 2008 season on Tuesday as the Bears Texas State in San Marcos, Texas. Baylor will face the Bobcats at 7 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum. Baylor is coming off two wins last weekend at the Baylor Invitational. The Bears swept SMU, 3-0, on Friday night before defeating Prairie View A&M on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-0. Baylor was originally scheduled to play Lamar on Saturday evening, but the Cardinals were forced to return to Beaumont, Texas due to the approach of Hurricane Gustav and the mandatory evacuation of the Lamar campus. Taylor Barnes was named the Most Valuable Player of the Baylor Invitational after leading the Baylor offense to a .323 hitting percentage for the two matches. She also recorded 12 kills with no errors in 20 total attacks, and added 59 set assists with two service aces. Allison King earned Top Libero honors for the tournament after starting as the team's top defensive specialist for both matches. She tallied 19 digs on the weekend, playing in five sets for the Bears. Katie Sanders was also named to the all-tournament team after recording 22 kills on .367 hitting and 16 digs in five sets of action. Tuesday's match will be broadcast live on the internet at BaylorBears.com.

LAST YEAR AGAINST TEXAS STATE

Texas State took set one, but Baylor rallied to win three straight sets as the Bears won their home opener 3-1 (26-30, 31-29, 30-17, 30-28) on Tuesday night at the Ferrell Center. Katie Sanders (Katy, Texas) led all players with 20 kills and added a career best 17 digs to record her third straight double-double. The match marked her third straight with more than 20 kills as she tallied 21 against North Carolina and Stony Brook. She committed just two hitting errors to record a .419 hitting percentage. Anna Breyfogle (Buda, Texas) added 11 kills and six blocks, including one solo. Taylor Barnes (Arlington, Texas) enjoyed another great all-around match with 52 sets to go along with six kills, six blocks, six service aces and nine digs. Sarah Grace (Houston, Texas) led the way defensively for the Bears with 21 digs on the night. Kristen Schramek (San Antonio, Texas) added 16 digs for Baylor. Ashley Byrd (Denton, Texas), who was expected to miss the match with a sprained right ankle, came off the bench to record three kills with no errors in seven total attempts (.429). She also added three total blocks, including one solo.

LAST TIME OUT

Briana Tolbert recorded a career high 11 kills as Baylor swept Prairie View A&M 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-13) on Saturday morning at the Ferrell Center. Baylor wins its second match of the weekend at the Baylor Invitational. The Bears' match against Lamar, originally scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., has been cancelled due to the threat of Hurricane Gustav moving into the Beaumont, Texas area. Tolbert, a freshman from Houston, Texas, tallied her 11 kills on 22 total attacks with only four hitting errors to reach double-figure kills for the first time in her career. She also added three total blocks for the Bears. Katie Sanders and Taylor Barnes added eight kills apiece, with Barnes' total coming on eight total attacks. Overall, the Bears hit .367 for the math, including a .452 clip in the first set.
