IRVING, Texas – For the second-straight week, Baylor volleyball freshman outside hitter Yossiana Pressley was named the Big 12’s Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Pressley is the first Big 12 player to be named Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week in back-to-back weeks in league history and is only the second to win both awards in the same season since Texas’ Haley Eckerman in 2011.
Last week, she was the first Big 12 player since teammate Jana Brusek on Nov. 3, 2014 to win simultaneous awards in the same week.
The 2017 squad now has a program-record 10 honors in a single season, surpassing last season’s program-high total of eight.
Pressley earns her fifth and sixth career awards after helping the Bears earn two home sweeps last week, rolling past both TCU and then-No. 19 Iowa State in straight sets.
In the Bears’ Wednesday victory over the Horned Frogs, Pressley had a match-high 17 kills on a .353 attack clip. On Saturday, Pressley helped BU sweep the Cyclones for the second time this season as she led all players with 14 kills on a .290 hitting effort. She had two of the top three performances in a three-set match last week.
The Cypress, Texas native led the league in kills per set (5.17) and points per set (5.47) as a freshman for the second consecutive week. This is the third week she has led the Big 12 in both categories this season.
With Pressley, Baylor continues to lead the Big 12 in kills per set (14.55).
No. 23 Baylor (20-5, 10-2 Big 12) has a midweek bye before traveling to face No. 12 Kansas Saturday at noon CT at Horejsi Family Athletics Center. The match will be live on ESPN3.
