DIFFICULT TRANSITION
"I'm forever thankful for them giving me this opportunity to be here," Aren Spencer said. "You see the names like Michael Johnson and Jeremy Wariner, it was kind of crazy that a school like that was interested in somebody like me."
RAISED ON GOLF
From following along with her dad, Silje Ohma started swinging a club when she was 5 years old and developed into one of the best junior golfers in Norway, winning the 2020 Norwegian Junior Championship and helping Team Norway capture the 2021 European Girls Championship.
GRINDER MENTALITY
"As soon as they offered me a scholarship, I committed on the spot," Ty Johnson said. "I looked at my dad and was like, 'This is a no-brainer. Can I do this now?' That ended up being one of the best decisions of my life.
HIS FIRST LOVE
From playing golf in his backyard with plastic clubs, whiffle balls and a makeshift course with hula hoops for holes when he was 3 years old, Jonas Appel has been in love with the game as long as he can remember.
THIS IS FAMILY
Something that seemed so foreign to him when he first arrived on campus four years ago, Baylor tennis has become family to Zsombor Velcz.
SECOND CHANCE
Used predominantly as a pinch-runner in her one season at Arizona, Amber Toven is arguably the best defensive shortstop in Baylor softball program history and a career .300 hitter with 11 home runs, 25 doubles and 85 RBIs.
SHE'S UNSTOPPABLE
If Payton Washington says she's going to work in the White House one day, I wouldn't bet against it. A victim of gun violence herself three years ago, the junior top/tumbler from Baylor's top-ranked Acrobatics & Tumbling team wants to bring back the Office of Gun Violence Prevention and possibly start a non-profit organization for survivors of gun violence.
LEAVING A LEGACY
In the changing world of college football, with the transfer portal, NIL and roster limits, a rags-to-riches story like Josh Cameron's may never happen again. But what a story it's been. A zero-star recruit when he signed with Baylor out of Cedar Park High School as a preferred walk-on in 2021, Cameron developed into an All-American punt returner, one of the top receivers in the country and a legitimate prospect for next month's NFL Draft.
THE BAYLOR CONNECTION
Somewhere, stashed away in Connie Powell Nichols' treasured keepsakes, is a picture of a young Caden Powell standing next to Scott Drew at a Baylor basketball camp. It was a connection that eventually brought the 6-foot-10 Powell back to Waco for his senior year of college basketball after stops at Wyoming and Rice.
LETTING HER LIGHT SHINE
And it was basketball that paved the way for Bella Fontleroy to come to Baylor four years ago. A five-star recruit at Kickapoo High School, she averaged 24 points and 11 rebounds as a senior in leading the Lady Chiefs to Missouri's Class 6 state championship game and earning Gatorade Player of the Year honors in the state.
